Abstract:
Theoretical modelling is a fundamental step in structural design which aim to simplify the complexity of engineering structures. Off-shore engineering includes structural problems of several fields such as Civil, Mechanical, Naval and Environmental. Due to their broad applicability such background can be easily applied to several problems both in research and industry. The complexity of modern structures increases everyday due to the introduction of new materials, enhanced regulations and cheaper economical processes. Therefore, the need of industrial and theoretical research is strongly required. This talk aims to present some results in the modelling of off-shore installations and off-shore structural components such as composite beams and pistons, flexible pipelines and smart devices using theoretical and numerical tools. The present talk shows applications in off-shore engineering. All the activities were carried out at Ravenna Campus of the University of Bologna, where an efficient network exists between industrial and local authorities.
